Preset technical stock screener for swing traders to quickly and easily scan for the best stocks

For US (Nasdaq & NYSE), Canada (TSX), United Kingdom (LSE), and India (NSE)

Getting started is easy. Just follow the 4 steps below:

  1. Select country on left hand column (USA, Canada, United Kingdom, and India presently available).
  1. Choose between screening for individual stocks or ETFs.
  1. If scanning for "stocks," optionally limit your scanning to specific stock exchanges (default is all exchanges). If screening for "ETFs," all exchanges are automatically selected.
  1. Under "MTG Scans," click on the preset technical screen of your choice. As trend traders, we suggest only scanning for long candidates in uptrending markets and short candidates in downtrending markets.
  1. Stocks and ETFs meeting our predefined, rule-based technical criteria will be instantly returned. Click on any ticker symbol to view the chart pattern.

Note: We highly recommend viewing the Video Tutorials in order to better understand the power of our stock screener.

A.  What does the Morpheus Stock Screener do for me?    ^ Back to top
The screener is designed to help swing traders and short-term investors quickly and easily find the strongest stocks and ETFs to buy in an uptrending market (and the weakest stocks to sell short in a downtrending market). It is a one-stop "turn key" approach that is easy, yet highly effective.

A.  What is the definition of each of the different types of "MTG Scans?"    ^ Back to top
Long Setups:
Potential Breakouts - When the broad market is uptrending, this scan identifies stocks and ETFs that have formed a valid basing pattern and are trading in a relatively tight trading range within 20% of 52-week highs. These equities are candidates to break out from a tight trading range within the next week or two and should be monitored carefully for a breakout entry (consider setting price alerts on your trading software).

Pullbacks - When the broad market is uptrending, this scan locates stocks and ETFs that have recently broken out to to new 52-week highs and have been pulling back (retracing) in orderly fashion over the past three to ten days. The best setups will pull back on relatively lighter volume and find support at the 10-day or 20-day moving averages. Our preset filter ensures all stocks and ETFs must at least be trading above their 30-day moving averages.

Short Selling Setups:
Short the Bounce - When the market is downtrending, this scan identifies low-risk short selling opportunities by locating weak stocks or ETFs that have "stalled out" at or near resistance, after having a short-term bounce off the most recent "swing low." Our preset filter ensures all stocks are trading at or below their 50-day moving averages.

Note: If you are not already familiar with our swing trading strategy from which the preset stock scans are based, we highly recommend clicking on the "video tutorials" tab to learn aoout our specific trade setups in more detail.

A.  Can I program my own stock scans?    ^ Back to top
For the advanced traders who prefer high levels of customization, there are already several other stock screening services that enable you to program your own screens, but the intention of our stock scanning software is to make it easy for everyone, even new traders, to quickly and easily find the best potential stocks and ETFs to buy by automatically narrowing the results down to only the tickers with the strongest chart patterns, based on our proven swing trading strategy. As such, the scans of the Morpheus Stock Screener can not be customized.

A.  What is the default minimum price and volume criteria for scans?    ^ Back to top
US markets:
For BUY SETUPS of individual stocks, the minimum price is $5 per share and minimum volume is 200,000 shares average daily volume. If you wish to use a higher minimum share price or average daily volume, you can easily do so by filtering the results below the appropriate column heading.

For BUY SETUPS of ETFs, the minimum price is $5 per share and minimum volume is 50,000 shares average daily volume. Because ETFs are synthetic instruments whose prices change based on the value of the underlying stocks, not the ETF itself, liquidity is not as much of a concern for short-term trading of ETFs. If you wish to use a higher minimum share price or average daily volume, you can easily do so by filtering the results below the appropriate column heading.

For SHORT SELLING SETUPS of both individual stocks and ETFs, the minimum price is $5 per share and minimum volume is 1,750,000 shares average daily volume. We prefer selling short much higher liquidity stocks because they are less likely to immediately rocker higher in the event of a "short squeeze." If you wish to use a higher minimum share price or average daily volume, you can easily do so by filtering the results below the appropriate column heading.

Indian markets:
For BUY SETUPS, the minimum price is 5 rupees per share and minimum volume is 200,000 shares average daily volume. If you wish to use a higher minimum share price or average daily volume, you can easily do so by filtering the results below the appropriate column heading.

For SHORT SELLING SETUPS, the minimum price is 5 rupees per share and minimum volume is 1,750,000 shares average daily volume. We prefer selling short much higher liquidity stocks because they are less likely to immediately rocker higher in the event of a "short squeeze." If you wish to use a higher minimum share price or average daily volume, you can easily do so by filtering the results below the appropriate column heading.

A.  Is there a way to filter the results to less stocks?    ^ Back to top
To filter results, simply click in the text field which is located directly below the title heading of each column. From there you can enter the specific number or text you wish to filter, and then select the drop down menu to the right and select your filter parameter.

A.  How do I sort the results of my stock scan?    ^ Back to top
Click on any column heading to sort results by that criteria. Click again to reverse the sort order.

A.  How do I export the results of my stock screen?    ^ Back to top
Located at the top right corner of the screener results page are Excel and CSV export icons. Click the desired file format to start the download, which can then be uploaded into your stock trading software.

A.  How do I view the charts of the stocks returned in the results?    ^ Back to top
Simply click on any symbol in the Ticker column to load the default chart. To cycle through the charts of all results from your scan criteria, just click the space bar. Alternatively, you may click on the row of any stock or ETF to load that chart. This is an extremely effective tool for active swing traders who are used to scanning through hundreds of charts at a time.

A.  How do I change the timeframe of the charts?    ^ Back to top
Below the volume bars on the chart, where the dates are listed, click and drag the vertical bar on the left to change the timeframe of the viewing period. You may also select the daily or weekly interval button in the bottom right corner of the screener to toggle the candlesticks.

A.  When is each day's stock market data updated?    ^ Back to top
As this is an end-of-day stock screener for swing traders, data for each exchange is typically updated through the current day's closing price within one hour of the official closing time of each market. For the U.S. markets, for example, data should be updated every day by around 5:00 pm ET.

A.  How do I know when to buy and sell?    ^ Back to top
Our software is designed to enable traders to quickly and easily find the top stocks and ETFs for potential swing trade entry, based on a proven methodology of stock selection. However, it is not a "black box" that automatically tells you when to buy and sell. To learn exactly when to buy and sell the stocks and ETFs returned in the scan results, there are two things you should consider:
  1. Subscribe to The Wagner Daily swing trading newsletter, where we narrow down the results to only the top 1 to 3 trade candidates most days, and then provide your with our exact, predefined entry, stop, and target prices (hand picked by the pros).
  2. Download our best-selling best-selling online swing trading course, a 7-part online video series that explains our entire trading methodology in great detail.

A.  Which countries is the Morpheus Stock Screener designed for?    ^ Back to top
Presently, stock scans can be performed in for the USA (Nasdaq and NYSE), Canada (TSX), United Kingdom (UK), and India (NSE). We will be adding additional countries and exchanges based on client demand. If you would like us to add your country's data, please send your suggestion to editors@morpheustrading.com.

A.  What are the system requirements?    ^ Back to top
Because the Morpheus Stock Screener was coded in the latest HTML5 technology, system requirements are minimal. There is no software to download and all the data processing takes place in "the cloud." Other than Internet access (obviously), the only requirement is that you are using the most up-to-date version of your web browser (Internet Explorer, Google Chrome, Firefox, Safari, etc.). All current versions of major web browsers are HTML5 compatible, but older versions are not. If you receive no results after attempting to do a stock scan, you are probably using an outdated browser. A simple update of your web browser will fix the problem.

A.  Will the Morpheus Stock Screener work with my iPad, iPhone, or Android device?    ^ Back to top
Yes, the Morpheus Stock Screener is fully compatible with most smartphones and tablet computers, including iPad and Android devices. This gives you the freedom to scan for the each day’s potential stock trades "on the go." For mobile devices, we recommend the Dolphin browser for the fastest and most reliable user experience.

A.  How do I receive technical support?    ^ Back to top
If you need assistance, the first place to look is here on this FAQs page, where your question may already be answered. Additionally, you will find informative video demonstrations by clicking on the "Video Tutorials" tab on the home page of the screener. How to screen for the top Potential Breakout setups

(3 minutes)

  Description:

Quick demonstration of how to use the screener software to easily spot Potential Breakout swing trade setups (stocks and ETFs with relative strength that are poised to "break out" above a base of price consolidation).

Stocks and ETFs trading at or near their 52-week highs have the least amount of overhead resistance, and therefore have the greatest ability to move sharply higher with the least amount of effort. That is why breakout setups, along with pullback setups, represent the primary element of our short-term momentum trading strategy.
